Per festeggiare i suoi ottant’anni, Marvel Comics darà alle stampe lo speciale #1000 che arriverà nelle fumetterie americane il 28 agosto 2019.
L’Editor in Chief di Marvel Comics, CB Cebulski, ha raccontato a CBR ciò che si cela dietro al progetto:
We knew we wanted to go back to past creators, bring back past storylines and tell one-shots and miniseries – not just with the superhero genre but with horror, romance, sci-fi…the other things that Marvel and Timely and Atlas were known for previously.
Dopo il successo riscosso dai due albi a fumetto di DC Comics, Action Comics #1000 e Detective Comics #1000, era semplice pensare di pubblicare un volume simile. Ma come ha rivelato Cebulski, l’intenzione di Marvel Comics, per quest’occasione, era quella di creare qualcosa di completamente diverso e innovativo.
We want to do something completely different.’ That’s where Tom Brevoort came up with the idea of ‘Let’s get one creative team to tell a story about one year in Marvel Comics history with one character…and then somehow tie them all together.
L’editor Tom Brevoort propose allora di raccontare gli anni dello storico marchio attraverso ottanta team differenti, e anche se in un primo momento sembrava un progetto troppo ambizioso, alla fine l’impossibile è divenuto realtà.
Marvel Comics #1000 connetterà ogni fumetto Marvel mai pubblicato – dal primo albo del 1939 al più recente – in una storia inedita in cui compariranno personaggi mai visti prima.
After I read the final version and sent it off to press, I talked to Tom and said ‘Hats off to you, because there is no other person in the editorial history of comics who could have done this except for you.
History of the Marvel Universe
Un altro progetto ambizioso quanto Marvel Comics #1000 è History of the Marvel Universe, di Mark Waid e Javier Rodríguez. Questa miniserie, annunciata soltanto di recente, racconterà la storia dei fumetti Marvel dalla creazione dell’universo fino ad oggi. A riguardo di questa miniserie, Cebulski ha affermato:
The story just moves from left to right. It takes full advantage of the medium of comic book storytelling to give you this beautiful visual history of the Marvel Universe from the first seed of Marvel history, chronologically up to where we are right now.
